    I guess my argument for Help to Buy is this: All markets are already distorted because of intervention from government, so this further distortion in the form of Help to Buy is needed to try and fix the problems in this constrained sector.

    I guess distortion is okay if all markets are distorted in the 1st instance.

    I would personally prefer a privatised approach to home building, because, as you say not enough homes are being built and public spending is currently still in deficit.

    But, I guess I could still make an argument for Help To Buy whilst we live in such a corporatist and interventionist world
