“The people have spoken”, were the words from an elated Marine Le Pen, leader French far-right Front National party (FN). The party is expected to dominate this year’s European Parliamentary elections as 3 official exit polls show that they have received 25% of the vote. The result would see the FN become the number 1 French party in European politics.
Speaking on the elections, Le Pen said:
The people have spoken. Our people demand one type of politics: they want French politics by the French, for the French, with the French. They don’t want to be led any more from outside, to submit to laws.
The sovereign people have proclaimed loud and clear … that they want to take back their destiny into their own hands.
We must build another Europe, a Europe of free and sovereign nations and freely decided cooperation. Tonight is a massive rejection of the European Union.
The biggest loser in tonight’s election is expected to be François Hollande’s incumbent Socialist Party, which has received an embarrassing 15% of the vote.
