Lisa Nandy: Caroline Lucas ‘not an opponent’

Lisa Nandy, Shadow Foreign Secretary and former Labour leadership candidate, states that she does not see Caroline Lucas, the Green Party’s only MP, as an ‘opponent’.

Nandy made the comment in the latest podcast by left-wing think tank, ‘Compass’, after stating that, equally, she did not see her Labour leadership candidates as ‘opponents’, but rather ‘contestants’.

This will come as a surprise to many, not least Labour members, as the Labour party emphatically ruled out an electoral pact with the Green Party in the 2019 general election, even when called for by the Greens themselves.

In the 2019 general election, Caroline Lucas increased her majority over Labour in Brighton by 5%, and in the same year’s EU elections the party won seven seats, only three less than Labour.

Labour politicians have been making good use of lockdown technology, such as Wales’ Health Minister Vaughan Gething MS on Zoom who said that care homes are ‘unlikely to survive’ a Labour restructuring, which you can view here.
