YI Chair Candidate & UKIP Councillor In Electoral Fraud Claim

Matt Smith, a former challenger for the chair of Young Independence and current Norfolk County Councillor, faces ten charges of electoral fraud and malpractice.

Mr Smith is accused of entering fraudulent nomination papers. Two other men are also facing charges. Mr Smith is currently the UKIP parliamentary candidate for the area.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: “We are aware of the allegations made against councillor Smith.“For the time being, while the prosecution is being pursued, there is no legal requirement for him to stand down as a county councillor.”
